CVA 2025: BrandXchange unveils the Hand & Cowrie plaque

In furtherance of its commitment to promoting enduring brands that keep their promises to consumers, BrandXchange — organizers of the Consumers Value Awards (CVA) — has unveiled a distinctive plaque for winners of the 2025 edition. The unveiling took place at the Ijakadi Hall of the prestigious Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja.

The plaque, known as “The Hand & the Cowrie,” symbolizes the core principles of trust, fairness, and authentic value within the marketplace.

At the heart of this innovation is the understanding that consumer choice extends beyond mere transactions — it reflects relationships. The cowrie shell, one of Africa’s earliest instruments of trade, stands as a powerful reminder of shared humanity and the connections built through commerce. It represents not only currency but also the cultural heritage and collective values that bind communities together.

Through the Consumers Value Awards, BrandXchange aims to honor brands that prioritize delivering real value while fostering trust and integrity. The mission remains to encourage businesses to place people at the center of their operations, ensuring consumer voices are heard, respected, and reflected in corporate behavior.

By celebrating organizations that contribute to a more equitable marketplace, the CVA empowers consumers to make informed choices aligned with their expectations and values. It reinforces the belief that commerce, when guided by integrity, can be a transformative force for good.

This year’s edition brought together government agencies, industry players, and advocacy groups. It also marked the debut of the Citizens Score Card, an initiative that uses citizens’ votes to gauge the reputation and performance perception of government agencies.

Speaking at the event, Akonte Ekine, Convener of the Consumers Value Awards, announced that preparations were underway for the first-ever Consumer Conference, scheduled for 23 September 2026, with the theme: “Strengthening Consumerism for Sustainable Nation Building.”
