The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Lagos State Council, has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden demise of its member and leader, Comrade Ariyo Akinola, whom it described as “a dedicated journalist who served with distinction at the New Nigerian Newspapers who died on Wednesday night in Lagos”.
In a condolence message signed by its Chairman and secretary, Adeleye Ajayi and Tunde Olalere, respectively, the Council stated, inter alia, “Comrade Akinola was not only a seasoned professional but also a committed unionist whose contributions to the growth and integrity of our Council will remain unforgettable”, adding, “As a former Internal Auditor and Financial Secretary of NUJ Lagos State Council, he discharged his duties with uncommon diligence, transparency, and an unwavering sense of responsibility”.
Continuing, the condolence message states, “He was widely respected for his humility, simplicity, and gentle disposition qualities that endeared him to colleagues across generations. His active participation in union affairs and his passion for the welfare of members set a standard of service and camaraderie that will continue to inspire us”.
The Council thus extended its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, colleagues of Comrade Akinola, and the entire media community, praying that God grants them the strength to bear this irreparable loss and grants the soul of its departed comrade eternal rest.
