Redeemer’s University, earlier, today, inducted 76 of its students into the nursing profession.
The event took place on the campus of the university in Ede, Osun state.
A news report by the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, indicates that the Acting Head of Department of Nursing Sciences of the university, Dr. Deborah Onisile, disclosed at the induction, awards and oath-taking ceremony that the inductees successfully passed the General Nursing Council Examination.
She added that they achieved flawless success in the general nursing council examination
Onisile commended the inductees for displaying extraordinary strength, unity and dedication during their examination period; and urged them to stay resolute and serve humanity with compassion and dignity.
Onisile urged them to be proud ambassadors of the nursing profession and be compassionate in the discharge of their duties.
On his part, Prof. Olumide Olukanni, Dean, Faculty of Basic Sciences, urged the inductees to attend to their patients with patience and in an ethical manner; adding that they should to be open to changes and embrace innovation.
His words: “You are stepping into the health environment that is changing and you must be open to changes. Learn new techniques and embrace new opportunities, believe in yourself and ability; this is important because smart and intelligent nurses are the future of health care”.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Shadrach Akindele, who was represented by his deputy, Prof. Parker Yerima, stressed that the nursing profession is a call to serve humanity. He urged the inductees to be good and proud ambassadors of the profession.
“You have been found worthy in character to be inducted into the nursing profession, therefore, be upright in your dealings,” Akindele declared.
He thanked the visitor to the university, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, for his support to the growth and development of the university.
The Keynote Speaker at the occasion was Prof. Prisca Adejumo, a Professor in the Nursing Department of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan.
She spoke on the theme “Embarking on a Journey towards Excellence in Nursing Practice: The Myriad of Diversity and Opportunities”, urging the inductees to embrace excellent mentality in the pursuit of their profession as. According to her, excellence in nursing enhances decent care and improved overall health outcomes.
Said she, “Your degree is essential, but your competence is important. Excellence involves skill, knowledge and also with element of attitude. Therefore, you must be ethical, promote integrity and continue to improve yourself”.
Adejumo urged the inductees to uphold outstanding standards and be excellent in the discharge of their duties. (NAN)
