Delta State, the hosts for the 8th National Youth Games is set for the events which have been scheduled for Sept. 10 in Asaba with the inauguration of a 7-man Local Organising Committee by the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) report, the Governor inaugurated the committee yesterday.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon disclosed that the committee would be chaired by Chief Solomon Ogba while Mr Festus Ohwojero would serve as its secretary.
Other members of the committee, according to the statement, include Chief Tonobok Okowa; Chief Chinonye Aliyu Daphey; Chief Victor Onogagamue; Mr Onoriode Oborevwori and Mr Harrison Ocholor.
NANs report added that the Joint Technical Meeting (JTM) for the games will hold between Aug. 18 and 20 while the games will end on Sept. 20
It would be recalled that the National Youth Games Sports event in Nigeria was a brain child of the Goodluck Jonathan administration. It is a multi-sporting event organized by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the National Sports Commission for athletes from the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria.
The maiden edition of the National Youth Games held in 2013 at the main bowl of the National Stadium, now MKO Abiola Stadium Abuja.
The maiden event had in attendance over 4000 athletes drawn from the different states in Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory.
The aim of the festival is to harness talents amongst the youths in Nigeria and also ensuring unity and togetherness among different states.
