…Emerges 18th out of 272 Varsities in Nigeria
In a rather historic development, Caleb University, one of the leading private universities in Nigeria, based in Imota, Lagos, has, for the first time in its 17years of existence gotten global ranking in the 2024 World University ranking by the Times Higher Education (THE).
The university has been ranked 18th best University out of the total 272 Public and Private Universities in Nigeria by the global ranking organisation.
This feat has put the institution on a spot among the world’s top universities as Times Higher Education reportedly evaluated Universities from 152 countries and regions across the world for the 2024 ranking.
Commenting to the historic ranking, the Vice Chancellor of Caleb University, Prof Nosa Owens-Ibie, said, “for us to be winning national and international recognitions in quick succession is proof that we remain a showcase of the best and brightest. The future belongs to Caleb University“; adding, “The ranking recognizes the institution’s dedication to the Sustainable Development Goals, providing a world-class education, fostering a culture of innovation, and producing talented graduates who make a positive impact globally”.
On his part, Prof. Olalekan Asikhia, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research, Innovation, Strategy and Administration (RISA) of the institution, stated, “When in 2021, Caleb University was ranked 66 in Nigeria, the Management went to the drawing board, held meetings and brainstormed. The target then was to put the University in the top 30 by the year 2024.”
He added, “However, the top 20 placement in 2024 came as an amazingly pleasant surprise; a result of collective acceleration efforts. We have surpassed our strategic plan projection of top 30 by 2024. This is a great feat in all its ramifications, being our first global ranking”.
It would be recalled that recently, Caleb University won the Best Private University in Nigeria award 2024 at the African Education Monitor Magazine Awards, held at Sheraton Hotels Ikeja, Lagos.
On its part, Times Higher Education is the topmost global university ranking body, assesses institutions by identifying and celebrating universities that excel across multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The organisation also considers Institutions that stand out in individual areas and demonstrate comprehensive excellence in contributing to global sustainable drives, showcasing commitments to addressing the world’s most pressing challenges, including environmental sustainability, social inclusion, economic growth and partnerships, as well as critical role of academia in driving sustainable change, among others.
